Olamide touches lives with her mind and hands as a physician. She also touches lives with her words. With her ready pen, she has created Echoes of Heaven, a poignant, down-to-earth collection of poems, that, in like manner as the biblical psalms seeks to cast poetic hope into the relatable struggles of every human. In the brokenness of our society today, the light of divine hope and healing still shines brightly.
Each verse of this nine-part, fully illustrated book hopes to call readers to draw from the eternal and divine, strength for daily life. The book comes with a lot of promise and Olamide hopes that through her words, readers will ponder the wonders of divine companionship, and find comfort and strength in the voice of the One who says, “I love you, child.”
When we asked her, “Why did you write Echoes of Heaven?” she said:
“Well, one of my major inspirations, when I think about my poetry is King David (in the Bible). I’ve always been fascinated by how his psalms reflected the different seasons of his life. Some of the psalms were inspired by his personal ordeals, some were inspired by his struggles with sin and trying to get right with God. Others were just sounds of worship and thanksgiving to God. Different psalms at different times, you know.
“It’s beautiful that those words were put into a book that millions, if not billions, over many centuries have read and read and prayed with. Even people who do not share the Christian faith know some common psalms. Echoes of Heaven is like that. These are poems that I wrote at different times, and each of these, like the psalms, has backstories.
“The goal of putting everything together in one book is to encourage the readers, and remind them that “God loves you.” The theme of the book is the love of God. No matter how far you have gone or how many times you’ve fallen, God’s love is always there, to pick you up.
“The other thing is, in your day-to-day life, dealing with an offense, worry, dealing with anything, there’s always a godly way out of it, and a godly way to handle life and see life from a different – a God – perspective.”
Olamide told us of encouraging comments she has received over the years from her writing, “Oh, this really encourages me..” “I needed to hear this at this time…” and all that.
She says, “I didn’t know initially know this was going to be a book while writing through my blog, but I put it out there because I felt God wanted my voice out there, you know, I felt he wanted to use my voice to reach certain people.”
We hope you will find encouragement through the poems in Echoes of Heaven.
Echoes of Heaven will release on April 3, 2023, and will be available wherever you buy your books.
